The Goat and Wolf Route is a circular hiking trail approximately 12 km long. This trail invites you to explore a mountainous landscape marked by shale rock formations, deep valleys, streams, and villages that maintain the region's traditional character. With a moderate to demanding difficulty level, the route is accessible to those with some fitness and experience hiking in the mountains. The trail is well-marked, although it includes steep climbs and more technical areas, which should be approached with caution and appropriate footwear.

The trail passes through places like Aldeia da Pena, Covas do Monte, and Covas do Rio, where people still live simply and with a strong connection to the land. Along the way, there are interesting geological formations like the Livraria da Pena, and stretches that stand out for both their natural beauty and symbolic value.

The environment is enriched by local legends, such as "The dead man who killed the living" and "The goat that killed the wolf," which give a mysterious and almost ancestral tone to the walk, reinforcing the connection between the territory and its stories.

It's a route that combines nature, culture, and physical challenge, ideal for those looking to discover a more authentic, less touristy side of central Portugal.
