The Rivers and Levadas Route is a circular hiking trail of approximately 12km that unfolds through the lands of the municipality of Oliveira de Frades, with unique natural landscapes. With a difficult level of difficulty, the route is accessible to those with some physical preparation, accustomed to hiking in nature, and capable of climbing and descending steep slopes. The path is well-marked and includes more technical sections where ropes are used to assist participants; these areas require special attention and appropriate footwear.
Considered one of the most scenically striking routes in our region, we are always surrounded by the enviable green of nature and also by the relaxing sound of rivers and streams that cascade down the slopes and form breathtaking waterfalls. On this route, we can see how important rivers were to humankind in the past; after all, we can see numerous traces of human presence in this region, clearly marked along this route, impossible to miss. From irrigation channels for transporting water, staircases for traversing land from one place to another, water-powered mills, and stone walls that transformed slopes into meadows later used for cultivation and which are now a forgotten space, completely reclaimed by nature, brambles, herbs, and trees.
